CBSE Class 10 Science 2017 · Paper 31/1/1 · Question 5
What is sustainable management ? Why is reuse considered better in comparison to recycle ?
Answer
Sustainable management meets present needs and preserves resources for the future; reuse is better than recycling because it saves the energy of reprocessing.
Sustainable management is the management of natural resources in such a way that they meet the needs of the present generation and are also preserved for the needs of future generations, without harming the environment.
Reuse is considered better than recycling because recycling uses energy: the used material has to be collected, transported and reprocessed (melted, pulped or remoulded) into new articles, and this can also cause pollution. In reuse the article is simply used again, as it is or for another purpose, so the energy of reprocessing is saved.
