CBSE Class 10 Science 2017 · Paper 31/2/3 · Question 5

Management of Natural Resources 2 marks Easy
Suggest any two ways by which the balance between the environment and industrial development is maintained so as to help undisturbed survival of the organisms on the Earth.

Answer

Use resources sustainably with reduce, reuse and recycle, and treat industrial wastes before releasing them.

Any two of these ways: (1) Use natural resources sustainably: industries should use raw materials, water and energy judiciously and follow the three R's — reduce, reuse and recycle — so that resources such as coal, petroleum, water and forests last for future generations and less waste is produced. (2) Treat industrial wastes before they are released: effluents should be treated before they are discharged into rivers and lakes, fumes cleaned before they leave the chimneys, and solid wastes such as slag disposed of safely, so that the air, water and soil stay fit for living organisms. Planting trees around industrial areas and replacing those that are cut, and using cleaner fuels and technologies, are further ways of keeping the balance.
