CBSE Class 10 Science 2017 · Paper 31(B)/C · Question 5
What is sustainable management ? Why is it necessary ?
Answer
Sustainable management meets present needs while conserving resources for the future, and is needed because resources are limited.
Sustainable management is the management of natural resources in such a way that they meet the needs of the present generation and are also conserved for future generations, without damaging the environment.
It is necessary because natural resources are limited while the demand for them keeps rising with the growing population, so that unplanned use would exhaust them; because the resources must last for the generations to come and not be used up for short-term gains; and because their extraction and use damage the environment. Management also ensures that their benefits are shared fairly by all.
