CBSE Class 10 Science 2019 · Paper 31/2/3 · Question 2
Although coal and petroleum are produced by the degradation of biomass, yet we need to conserve these resources. Why ?
Answer
They are non-renewable: formed over millions of years, they cannot be replaced once used up, and their limited reserves will be exhausted.
Because they are non-renewable: coal and petroleum were formed from buried biomass over millions of years, so once they are used up they cannot be replaced, and their limited reserves will be exhausted in the future however carefully we use them. (Burning them also pollutes the air, another reason to use them judiciously.)
