CBSE Class 10 Science 2017 · Paper 31/1/1 · Question 3
What is an ecosystem ?
Answer
An ecosystem is the living organisms of an area interacting with the non-living parts of their environment.
An ecosystem is formed by all the interacting living organisms of an area (the biotic components: producers, consumers and decomposers) together with the non-living components of their environment (the abiotic components, such as temperature, rainfall, wind, soil and minerals). Examples: a forest or a pond (natural), a garden or a crop field (human-made).
