CBSE Class 10 Science 2019 · Paper 31/3/1 · Question 19
- (a)List four characteristics of the images formed by plane mirrors.
- (b)A 5 cm tall object is placed at a distance of 20 cm from a concave mirror of focal length 30 cm. Use mirror formula to determine the position and size of the image formed.
Answer
Plane-mirror image: virtual, erect, same size, laterally inverted; concave mirror: cm, virtual, erect, 15 cm tall.
(a) The image formed by a plane mirror is (1) virtual and erect - it cannot be obtained on a screen; (2) of the same size as the object; (3) as far behind the mirror as the object is in front of it; (4) laterally inverted. (b) With the sign convention, cm, cm, cm. Mirror formula: , so cm: the image is formed cm behind the mirror. Magnification , so cm. The image is cm tall - virtual, erect and enlarged (three times the size of the object).
