CBSE Class 10 Science 2019 · Paper 31/2/1 · Question 23
What is observed when a pinch of sodium hydrogen carbonate is added to 2 mL of acetic acid taken in a test tube ? Write chemical equation for the reaction involved in this case.
Answer
A brisk effervescence of carbon dioxide is seen, which turns lime water milky; sodium ethanoate and water also form.
Observation: a brisk effervescence is seen - bubbles of a colourless, odourless gas, carbon dioxide, are given off (the gas turns lime water milky).
(Ethanoic acid + sodium hydrogencarbonate gives sodium ethanoate + water + carbon dioxide.)
