Light - Reflection and Refraction 3 marks Easy
State the laws of reflection of light. List four characteristics of the images formed by plane mirrors.

Answer

The angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection; the plane-mirror image is virtual, erect, the same size and laterally inverted.

Laws of reflection: (i) The angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection, . (ii) The incident ray, the normal to the mirror at the point of incidence and the reflected ray all lie in the same plane. Characteristics of the image formed by a plane mirror (any four): it is virtual and cannot be obtained on a screen; it is erect; it is of the same size as the object; it is as far behind the mirror as the object is in front of it; it is laterally inverted.
