CBSE Class 10 Science 2017 · Paper 31(B)/C · Question 8
An organic compound ‘A’ () on reacting with acidified forms another compound ‘B’. On adding a piece of sodium to ‘B’ a gas ‘X’ evolves which burns with a pop sound. Identify ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘X’ and also write the chemical equations for the reactions involved.
Answer
A is ethanol, B is ethanoic acid and X is hydrogen gas.
'A' is ethanol, ; 'B' is ethanoic acid (acetic acid), ; 'X' is hydrogen gas, .
