Periodic Classification of Elements 3 marks Medium
Write the electronic configurations of two elements P (atomic number 11) and Q (atomic number 19) and determine their group number and period number in the modern periodic table.

Answer

P is (group 1, period 3) and Q is (group 1, period 4).

P (atomic number 11): K, L, M . It has shells, so it is in period ; it has valence electron, so it is in group . Q (atomic number 19): K, L, M, N . It has shells, so it is in period ; it has valence electron, so it is in group . (P is sodium and Q is potassium: both are alkali metals in group 1, with Q one period below P.)
