CBSE Class 10 Science 2019 · Paper 31/2/2 · Question 2

Electricity 1 mark Easy
Should the resistance of a voltmeter be low or high ? Give reason.

Answer

High: a voltmeter in parallel should draw negligible current so that the potential difference it measures stays unchanged.

High. A voltmeter is connected in parallel across the component, so with a high resistance only a negligible current passes through it; the current through the component, and hence the potential difference being measured, is then practically unchanged.
