CBSE Class 10 Science 2017 · Paper 31/1/1/C · Question 6
What is ozone ? Name the chemicals that damage the ozone layer.
Answer
Ozone () is a three-atom oxygen molecule that shields the Earth from UV radiation; chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) damage the ozone layer.
Ozone () is a molecule formed by three atoms of oxygen. In the higher levels of the atmosphere it forms the ozone layer, which shields the surface of the earth from the harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation of the Sun.
The chemicals that damage the ozone layer are chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), synthetic chemicals used as refrigerants and in fire extinguishers (and as propellants in aerosol sprays).
