CBSE Class 10 Science 2022 · Paper 31/2/2 · Question 11
A green stemmed tomato plant denoted by (GG) is crossed with a tomato plant with purple stem denoted by (gg).
- (i)What colour of the stem would you expect in their F1 progeny ?
- (ii)In what ratio would you find the green and purple coloured stem in plants of F2 progeny ?
- (iii)What conclusion can be drawn for the above observations ?
Answer
is all green (); shows green : purple ; green is dominant and purple recessive, inherited unchanged.
(i) All the F1 plants have green stems (genotype ), because green is the dominant trait.
(ii) in the F2 (genotypes ).
(iii) Green stem colour () is dominant and purple () is recessive. The purple trait, hidden in every F1 plant, reappears in the F2, so the factor for it was inherited unchanged rather than lost or blended: each plant carries two copies of the factor for stem colour, the two copies separate so that each gamete receives only one, and they come together again at fertilisation.
