CBSE Class 10 Science 2019 · Paper 31/1/1 · Question 26(b)
What would you suggest to a student if while performing an experiment he finds that the pointer/needle of the ammeter and voltmeter do not coincide with the zero marks on the scales when circuit is open? No extra ammeter/voltmeter is available in the laboratory.
Answer
Use the same meters after correcting for zero error: subtract each meter's zero error, with its sign, from every reading.
The student should use the same meters after correcting for their zero errors:
(1) Note the zero error of each meter: with the circuit open, record the reading at which the pointer of the ammeter and of the voltmeter rests (positive if it rests to the right of zero, negative if to the left).
(2) Correct every observed reading for it: correct reading = observed reading zero error, taken with its sign.
