Management of Natural Resources 2 marks Easy
Management of forest and wild life resources is a very challenging task. Why ? Give any two reasons.

Answer

Many stakeholders with conflicting interests depend on the same forest, and its large biodiversity must be conserved while their needs are met.

Management of forest and wildlife resources is very challenging because: (i) Many stakeholders with conflicting interests depend on the same forest. The people who live in and around it need firewood, fodder, fruit and small timber; the Forest Department owns the land and controls its resources; industrialists want timber, tendu leaves and wood for paper; and wildlife and nature enthusiasts want the forest conserved in its pristine form. Meeting all these demands at once is difficult. (ii) Forests are biodiversity hot spots. Their very large number of plant and animal species, including wildlife threatened by overexploitation, loss of habitat and poaching, has to be conserved for the future while people's needs from the forest are met. Other valid reasons, such as the difficulty of stopping poaching or the loss of forest land to farming and industry, also answer the question.
