CBSE Class 10 Science 2018 · Paper 31/1 · Question 9
Name the hormones secreted by the following endocrine glands and specify one function of each :
- (a)Thyroid
- (b)Pituitary
- (c)Pancreas
Answer
Thyroid secretes thyroxin, pituitary secretes growth hormone, and pancreas secretes insulin, which regulates blood sugar level.
(a) Thyroid: thyroxin (thyroxine). Function: it regulates carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism in the body so as to provide the best balance for growth.
(b) Pituitary: growth hormone. Function: it regulates the growth and development of the body.
(c) Pancreas: insulin. Function: it regulates the blood sugar level, lowering it when it rises. (The pancreas also secretes glucagon, which raises the blood sugar level; either hormone with its function is correct.)
